Amazon has debuted the Blue Jay robot to power artificial intelligence (AI) and automation in its operations. The technology is designed to reduce repetitive tasks, improve safety, and boost productivity while speeding up delivery.
Amazon also announced Project Eluna, an agentic AI model built to help operators make more informed decisions.
The innovations build on several recent AI and automation breakthroughs in Amazon’s operations such like Vulcan and DeepFleet.
In February, Amazon was tipped to invest US$25 billion in a new generation of robotics-led warehouses to improve efficiency and delivery times across its retail network. In March, Amazon deployed its one millionth robot in a fulfillment center in Japan.

Learn MoreAmazon extends approach to physical AI
Blue Jay and Project Eluna extend Amazon’s approach to physical AI, technology that learns from contact, coordinates at scale, and supports people in the real world.
“Our latest innovations are great examples of how we’re using AI and robotics to create an even better experience for our employees and customers,” said Tye Brady, chief technologist for Amazon Robotics. “The goal is to make technology the most practical, the most powerful tool it can be – so that work becomes safer, smarter, and more rewarding.”
Blue Jay is an advanced robotics system designed to assist employees with reaching and lifting tasks. By coordinating multiple robotic arms, it can perform several functions simultaneously, combining what were once three separate workstations into a single, streamlined workspace capable of picking, stowing, and consolidating items in one place, Amazon stated.
The result is greater efficiency within a smaller footprint, while providing more support to frontline employees. Over time, Blue Jay will serve as a core technology helping power Amazon’s Same-Day sites.
Project Eluna is an agentic AI system that acta with a degree of autonomy, reasoning through complex operational situations and recommending actions to operators. It acts like an extra teammate, helping reduce cognitive load, according to Amazon.
Project Elun pulls in historical and real-time data across a building to anticipate bottlenecks and keep operations running smoothly. It will be piloted at a fulfillment center in Tennessee to assist operators this holiday season, working initially on sortation optimization.

People are central to Amazon’s AI and automation innovations
Across these innovations, the goal is consistent: reduce highly repetitive tasks, improve ergonomics, and expand career pathways, Amazon said.
Blue Jay helps keep employees working in their ergonomic “power zone,” reducing repetitive reaching and lifting. Project Eluna helps leaders plan better and spend more time coaching teams rather than chasing data.
“The real headline isn’t about robots,” Brady said. “It’s about people – and the future of work we’re building together.”
Amazon is also investing in training so employees feel confident working with AI-supported tools through education programs like Career Choice and apprenticeships in mechatronics and robotics, alongside new AI education offerings that help employees understand where these systems fit into daily work and careers.
