Transportation supply chains

Celonis launched the Genpact Transportation Costs and Performance app featuring a range of tools to visualize, analyze and optimize transportation operations.

Developed by Genpact and powered by the Celonis Process Intelligence platform, the app helps supply chain leaders optimize transportation networks, improve efficiency, reduce costs and manage carrier performance more effectively.

Genpact Transportation Costs and Performance is designed to consolidate process data from Oracle Transportation Management (TMS) systems – with the flexibility to adapt to other TMS platforms – and can be extended with WMS, ERP and other logistics-related data if needed.

Addressing disruptions to enhance transport supply chains

Supply chains face constant disruption ranging from geopolitical instability, uncertain trade policy and labor shortages to rising capital costs and efficiency demands. Disjointed systems and disconnected technologies limit real-time decision-making and obscure visibility into carrier performance.

This leads to fragmented data, siloed operations and delayed insights – making it harder for companies to meet rising demands for speed, cost-efficiency and sustainability. The consequences include increased costs, delivery delays, poor carrier management and a diminished customer experience

“The Genpact Transportation Costs and Performance app empowers supply chain leaders with end-to-end visibility and understanding of transportation processes,” said Neel Patel, lead solution manager, supply chain at Celonis. “Reimagining how transportation is managed, it delivers tangible value using process intelligence to uncover and eliminate inefficiencies, while optimizing carrier performance and laying the foundation for artificial intelligence (AI) success.”

Enhancing supply chains with process intelligence

Celonis Process Intelligence unifies data from supply chain source systems and brings it together in a way that allows users of the Genpact Transportation Costs and Performance app to make smarter decisions, said Mathias Vaupel, supply chain service line director at Genpact.

It forms a digital twin of supply chain operations, from shipment planning and tendering to final delivery and returns. It is expected to enable operators to:

  • Identify and address root causes of delays in specific lanes, suppliers, modalities, sites or processes.
  • Reduce transportation costs via proactive planning, effective resource management, spot freight management and strict policy adherence with real-time alerting.
  • Analyze costs associated with supplier delays and service level agreement violations to identify areas for improvement and better carrier alternatives.
  • Identify transportation patterns to ensure consistent truck loads, minimize empty trips and respond to unexpected changes in load volumes or carrier capacity.
  • Pinpoint inefficient distribution routes, analyze options in real time and devise more efficient paths for optimized truck utilization.

Key features of the app include:

  • Process explorer
  • Transportation cockpit
  • On-time delivery (OTD)/on-time collections (OTC)
  • Order cycle time
  • Lane analysis
  • Carrier performance
  • Automation

A leading global consumer packaged goods (CPG) company recently deployed the app to address rising transportation costs and declining on-time delivery rate across approximately 700,000 annual shipments and 200 carriers, according to Celonis. The app revealed excessive reliance on costly spot freight, driven by underperforming or under-capacity primary contracted carriers.

Using insights from the app, the company redesigned its carrier management strategy and implemented governance controls to reduce early spot usage. It expects to see savings of up to US$6 million and a 15 percent improvement in on-time delivery.

How process intelligence transforms manufacturing & supply chains: 2025 industry report

This industry report examines how and why organizations are investing in process intelligence to enhance manufacturing and supply chain management. “Global manufacturing and supply chains face enormous volatility in 2025,” says Michael Ochi, director at QAD. “Individual organizations feel tremendous pressure but also have new opportunities to grow. Any combination of protective and expansive business strategies requires constant speed and awareness.”

Organizations with significant manufacturing and supply chain operations are turning to process intelligence because it is uniquely capable of providing speed and awareness to any part of the business that leverages software.
