Low-cost airline flynas has been awarded the Operational Excellence Award in the 2025 oneDXB Airport Excellence Awards, presented by Dubai Airports. The airline outperformed more than 100 regional and international airlines operating at Dubai International Airport (DXB).

This achievement reflects flynas’ commitment to operational excellence (OPEX) and innovation, as well as its distinguished efforts to enhance operational efficiency and the guest experience, the firm stated.

The accomplishment also aligns with flynas’ growth and expansion strategy, as well as its active contribution to achieving Saudi Vision 2030 objectives by connecting the Kingdom to more than 250 international destinations, it added.

Meanwhile, fellow low-cost airline IndiGo aims to set new industry standards with evidence-based training (EBT) for pilots with a focus on improving OPEX and safety.

flynas wins OPEX award

Dubai Airports – the entity responsible for operating, managing, and developing both DXB and Dubai World Central, Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) – emphasized that this year’s annual awards highlight its commitment to delivering a world-class and exceptional travel experience. This is particularly pertinent amid the continuous growth in passenger numbers each year, made possible through the collaboration of all partners within the airport ecosystem, it added.

flynas operates 139 routes to more than 70 domestic and international destinations in 30 countries with more than 2000 weekly flights. It has flown more than 80 million passengers since its launch in 2007 to reach 165 domestic and international destinations within its growth and expansion plan, and in line with the objectives of Vision 2030.

IndiGo sets new training standards to boost OPEX

In a significant move to enhance flight safety and operational standards, IndiGo, India’s largest airline, has announced its plan to introduce EBT for its pilots. It marks a pivotal moment in the airline’s efforts to elevate its pilot training systems and reflects the company’s dedication to adopting innovative measures to ensure safety, improve performance, and stay ahead in the competitive aviation industry.

The key strength of the evidence-based approach is its foundation in real operational data, rather than the traditional use of hypothetical scenarios. This enables IndiGo to design a training program that is more customized and effective, reflecting actual performance metrics and operational realities.

“We will first gather and validate all relevant data, and then develop our training program based on that information,” an IndiGo official said. This approach ensures that training is directly aligned with the airline’s day-to-day operational challenges and performance trends.

The introduction of EBT aims to provide a significant boost in operational safety and flight reliability. IndiGo currently employs over 5,300 pilots with a growing fleet size that includes a robust order book of over 900 new aircraft. The airline expects its pilot workforce to double by 2030.
