Legacy systems in semiconductor production processes
Despite producing cutting-edge technologies, the semiconductor manufacturing industry continues to rely heavily on legacy equipment in its production processes. Key operations such as material flow management and machine changeover remain only partially automated in many facilities.
This lack of full automation is especially evident in the European semiconductor industry, where manufacturers face mounting pressure to improve efficiency and reduce costs. To stay competitive in the global market, European chip producers must prioritize automation upgrades and optimization of existing production facilities.
“Today’s society relies heavily on semiconductors for everything from smartphones to cars, and there is a strong commitment in Europe to strengthen the industry’s manufacturing capabilities,” said Christina Raab, market unit lead for Accenture in Austria, Switzerland and Germany. “The production of semiconductors is complex and highly specialized, and SYSTEMA’s deep expertise in the industry will expand our capabilities and grow our business in ways we couldn’t achieve organically.”
Combining the capabilities of Accenture and SYSTEMA
SYSTEMA’s expertise includes deep knowledge in digitally connecting current and legacy production equipment and systems. The firm excels at upgrading and extending traditional manufacturing execution systems (MES) with data analytics and optimization capabilities, according to a press release.
The combination of SYSTEMA’s semiconductor and high-tech industry experience and capabilities with Accenture’s global network and ability to scale will offer services covering the whole value chain, from supply to logistics and manufacturing, commented Accenture’s Sarat Maitin. “Our ambition is to become a partner to the industry that helps clients in Germany and Europe secure competitiveness in a market increasingly under pressure.”

Accenture changes growth model to reinvent itself for the age of AI
Earlier this month, Accenture announced growth model and leadership changes that will enable it to serve clients and technology ecosystem partners better and faster – creating new ways to benefit all stakeholders.
Accenture will bring a range of services together in a single, integrated business unit called Reinvention Services, under the leadership of Manish Sharma, the firm’s current CEO of the Americas. Sharma will become Accenture’s first chief services officer. As an integrated business unit, Reinvention Services will be able to create more leading solutions faster and embed data and AI more easily into its solutions and delivery.
“Today, our clients need more value faster, and Accenture is their reinvention partner of choice,” said Julie Sweet, chair and CEO of Accenture. “These changes to our growth model will allow us to deliver that value and continue to scale our business by being an even stronger engine of reinvention that more rapidly delivers the power of generative artificial intelligence (AI). We are writing the playbook for how to be the most AI-enabled, client-focused professional services company in the world and a great place to work for our people – our reinventors.”
