Even Google got in on the act when the company’s chief economist Val Halerian predicted that "statisticians" would be "the sexy job in the next 10 years" as companies look to derive new insight and intelligence from the reams of data being produced on a daily basis.

Six Sigma professionals have long known the importance of collecting and analyzing data in order to find the "root cause" of a problem. Now that the data is more readily available than ever before – it’s a question of what you do with it.
