Operational excellence is often seen as a way of gaining competitive advantage: it's the ability to provide greater value to your customer by doing something more efficiently and of a higher quality than your competition. So if you were starting a company from scratch, how could you use process excellence as the foundation?
In effect, that was the challenge facing ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA, a company that builds and operates stainless steel processing facilities around the globe. The company recently invested $5bn in the most modern steel processing plant in near Mobile, Alabama, USA. With hundreds of new employees, new plant, new products and an aim of enhancing "logistical efficiencies" and "just-in-time delivery to better serve [its] North American customers" it was imperative for the company to have a solid platform to support operational excellence.
In this PEX Network video recorded live during PEX Week, (one of the largest global gatherings of process professionals), Ian Gotts, VP of TIBCO Software interviews Brent Wilson, Director of Production Planning at ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA. Hear Brent's firsthand account of the company's journey to build process excellence into the foundation of the new plant: what they did, the challenges, and how they ensured that all employees adopted the required processes and standard operating procedures as part of day-to-day operations.
This recorded session features extensive video footage shot on location at ThyssenKrupp Stainless' new manufacturing plant in Alabama, including an interview with ThyssenKrupp's CEO and revealing insight from the shop floor on the impact of adopting a process driven approach from the very beginning.
