In the not so distant past, news and information used to drift around the world on ships, carried by messengers. But as the 20th century advanced, so too did the pace at which information travels.
As a result, Adrian Pasciuta, Technical Director at solution provider Vitria Technology, says that today it's not good enough for businesses to make decisions based on what's happened in the past. Organisations need to know what's happening in their business right now, he says, so that they can identify potential problems and fix them before customers are even aware of them. He calls this "Operational Intelligence".
