The Department of Defense has had an incredible journey deploying Lean Six Sigma on an enterprise level after establishing the Lean Six Sigma Program Office in 2007. In this Profit through Process podcast, Genna Weiss of Six Sigma IQ speaks with JD Sicilia, the Director for the Department of Defense Lean Six Sigma Program Office, who discusses the lessons learned along the way and the staggering results that the DoD has achieved in just two short years.

Sicilia, a featured speaker at the IDGA Lean Six Sigma for Defense conference from December 7-9, 2009, talks about the DoD’s drive to achieve consistency amongst all of the different Lean Six Sigma initiatives spread out across different areas of the DoD. You will hear about the steps taken to reduce the variation of programs, as well as how the DoD has codified a method for picking the most important Lean Six Sigma projects with the biggest return on investment. Sicilia gives updates on the progress of the goals that were put in place for 2009—which include institutionalizing directives and instructions that would outlive the current leadership and thus safeguard program buy-in—and maps out the DoD’s five year plan for the Lean Six Sigma deployment.
