Hoshin Kanri: An Alternative to MBOs?

Is Hoshin Kanri a better alternative to Management By Objective? Yes, argues Ken Craddock in this Process Perspectives podcast. Craddock is an expert in organizational design and a frequent lecturer at New York’s Columbia business school. He discusses why he believes that a common management practice that involves goal setting by employees and managers called Management by Objectives (commonly called MBOs) is fundamentally flawed as practiced in many organizations today. He explains why he believes that Hoshin Kanri, a form of objective setting that involves aligning performance and goals within the organization, is a better alternative.

Editor's note: The ideas in this podcast build on the Ken's recent column: Beyond Management by Objective: A Look at Hoshin Kanri.
