The Association of Change Management Professionals (ACMP) announced the release of the newly adapted Standard for Change Management, reflecting the latest best practices in the field.
First published in 2014, the standard has been a cornerstone resource for change management professionals globally. The latest adaptation ensures that the standard remains a relevant, methodology-neutral framework that supports professionals across industries.
ACMP is the professional membership association for business change leaders.

A new standard for change management
“The evolution of the standard reflects the ever-changing nature of our field,” said Rich Batchelor, president of ACMP. “By integrating current best practices and insights from our global community, we continue to empower change professionals with the tools they need to drive successful transformations.”
The adaptation process was guided by findings from the most recent Job Task Analysis (JTA), a comprehensive global survey that captured how change is practiced today.
ACMP recognizes the importance of a smooth transition for those preparing for the Certified Change Management Professional (CCMP)exam. As such, there will be a transition period before the updated standard is applied to exam questions.
Candidates are encouraged to refer to ACMP’s website for the most up-to-date information on timelines and test certification specifics:
- Standard (1st edition): For those taking the CCMP exam on or prior to March 30, 2026.
- Blackout exam date: No exams on March 31, 2026.
- Standard (2nd edition): For those taking the CCMP exam on or after April 1, 2026.
“The adapted standard reaffirms ACMP’s commitment to advancing the discipline of change management globally," said Deshini Newman, CEO of ACMP. “We are committed to providing professionals with the most relevant guidance and ensuring a seamless transition for those seeking the CCMP certification.”

What’s shaping change management?
In May, the ACMP released a whitepaper outlining five key steps to modernizing change management. The report explores how the discipline is being reshaped by rapid technological advances, evolving workforce expectations and shifting economic conditions.
“Change management is at a crossroads,” the whitepaper stated, emphasizing the growing need for agility. Future change leaders will need to adopt an iterative mindset, adapting strategies based on real-time feedback and dynamic business environments.”
The five steps to modern change management are:
- Transforming change management with artificial intelligence (AI).
- Driving adoption during mergers and acquisitions.
- Strengthening change management through coaching.
- Leveraging metrics, data and dashboards for impact.
- Enabling change through strong sponsorship.
