Eddie Smith > Director of Operations - Kuhn Krause a Division of Kuhn North America

1. What are the top three points that you wish to highlight to delegates during your session?

  • Create the Right Mentality
  • Develop a Structured Focus in your Journey
  • Create a Consistent Know-How and Want

2. If you were to sum up your current PEX strategy in one sentence, what would it be?

I think every successful company needs to have the Right Solution, at the Right Time and in the Right Place.

3. What is your biggest challenge? What solution would make your life easier?

Leadership, culture, behavior: I feel understanding processes to change the leadership, culture and behavior of a company takes a very long time. What can we do to expedite this curve to get the benefits sooner in the process?

Lean: I want to expose people that I am responsible for in the application and implementation of the Lean Process from successful companies in order for them to see Lean in action. This way, when the time comes for Lean in my company they will understand the application and implementation of the subject matter they are being trained in.

Data and analytics: Most companies either are in data overload and analysis by paralysis or then do not have a means nor system to gather the date. A lot of businesses need a method to understand what type of data do they need, how much data is necessary and what do you do with the data to drive results.

Change Management: Many top executive have a weak understanding of how to implement and drive change management. They rely on their mid-level managers to drive the change and when this does not happen, they cannot understand what went wrong.

Business Process Efficiency: Only businesses that understand their processes and there weakness can survive long term. These companies need to search out successful business that have demonstrated this and learn from them. The old saying is true "Go See What Someone Else Has Successfully Achieved and Do What They Have Done and You Will Be Better Than Your Competition".

4. What are you looking to gain from PEX Week?

Open my eyes and mind to new technologies and processes, which I can bring back to my company and expand to gain the advantage over my competitors.

5. What is your prediction on the future of PEX, say, in 2050?

Automation will continue to be the key to successful businesses. It will grow exponentially as our children become more and more educated and exposed to new technologies. How these businesses grow and embrace this initiative will determine just how successful they will be in the future.
