AI in business process model

PEX Network’s key takeaways:

  • Nintex announced the general availability of AI Model to Map in the Nintex Process Manager platform.
  • Capability enables users to utilize generative artificial intelligence (AI) and business process model and notation (BPMN) to generate an initial procedure draft.
  • “This is a major step forward in making process intelligence accessible, actionable, and scalable across the organization.”

Nintex has announced the general availability of AI Model to Map in the Nintex Process Manager platform.

The capability enables users to utilize generative AI and business process model and notation (BPMN), a global standard for visually mapping business processes using a graphical notation, to generate an initial procedure draft.

This allows users to begin designing processes in BPMN and then continue to refine them in the Process Editor.

“This is a major step forward in making process intelligence accessible, actionable, and scalable across the organization,” commented Chris Ellis, director of solution engineering at Nintex.

Nintex announces general availability of AI Model to Map

In a demo viewable on YouTube, Bree Barsanti, senior solution engineer at Nintex and PEX Network contributor, showed how AI Model to Map enables users to:

  • Take an existing BPMN model, whether from an ERP, consultant, or system flow.
  • Instantly convert it into a clear, business-friendly procedure using generative AI.
  • Translate technical process maps into human-readable steps, activities, and role assignments.
  • Bridge the gap between technical teams and business users for faster execution.

“This tool gives us the ability to bring our technology and business teams together more than ever,” said Barsanti. “With the ability to quickly pick up a BPMN file that may have come out of an ERP, could have been built to articulate a specific system flow, we can now bring that automatically using generative AI and ready for the business team to get executing.”

Key aspects of BPMN

  • Standardized symbols: Uses shapes like circles (events), rectangles (activities/tasks), diamonds (gateways), and lines (flows) to represent process elements.
  • Visual language: Creates flowcharts (business process diagrams) that depict the sequence and logic of activities from start to finish.
  • Stakeholder communication: Intuitive enough for business stakeholders but detailed enough for IT, fostering collaboration.
  • Process management: Supports business process management (BPM) by documenting, analyzing, and optimizing how work gets done.
  • Automation-ready: Can be detailed enough to serve as a blueprint for automated process execution.
