Harnessing the power of enterprise architecture from the planning stage

Digital transformation projects will only succeed with proper planning, which is where EA can drive real change

In a post-pandemic world, digital transformation has continued to accelerate across public and private sector organizations. To ensure the process reaps genuine benefits across all operations, Robert Weisman, engineer-in-residence and professor (digital transformation and innovation) at the University of Ottawa, has endorsed an enterprise architecture-led strategy.

Speaking at PEX Live: Enterprise Architecture 2022, Weisman said enterprise architects have the capacity to take a “holistic approach” to digital transformation from the planning stage onwards. He urges organizations to leverage enterprise architecture “to provide a means of communication about what people need and what potential solutions are available.”

At its most powerful and effective, Weisman said enterprise architecture works to optimize corporate assets and help organizations to “move forward in an integrated manner”. He stressed that it was important to remember that technology was a tool toward success, rather than a means to an end, and urged organizations to keep customer satisfaction as the main goal.
