Dennis Olsson, group sustainability change lead at Danske Bank, faced major challenges when he revised the financial organization’s approach to change management. With more than 21,500 employees across 170 branches and 11 countries, creating unified processes was going to be an enormous undertaking, but he was able to succeed with a people-driven strategy.

Describing himself as a “change evangelist”, Olsson said that when he started his role at Danske Bank, the change management approaches varied across the business and using external change management consultants was commonplace and costly. In Denmark alone, more than 100 change management implementations took place in one year, so the scale of the task was enormous.

Olsson outlined how introducing the Change Management Guild, a grassroots-driven initiative that leverages the capabilities of people within the organization, has been instrumental in working towards a unified framework that reduces complexity and saves money.
