A recent MIT study found that 95% of AI efforts fail in enterprises. AI agents promise to define the future of enterprise with autonomous decision making, self-optimizing workflows, and step change in productivity. Done well, a company's agentic transition will increasingly determine its operating advantage and competitive position. However, these transformation efforts often fail to get off the ground, turning into an expensive distraction. In this talk, I will investigate the different stages of AI automation and the common pitfalls at each stage. I will then share lessons and best practices for agentic transformation observed from years of experience in AI research and practice at OpenAI, MIT, and Microsoft.
