Chase Covington is a Partner in McKinsey's New York office who leads large-scale business transformations and turnarounds across sectors, from basic materials to advanced manufacturing. Within McKinsey's Transformation Practice, he leads the firm's approach to independent diligences and to using AI to improve the speed and accuracy of value-creation-plan underwriting. His client work spans multi-hundred-million-dollar transformations of global industrial businesses — driving margin expansion, growth and operational efficiency, alongside large-scale turnarounds across top line, cost and working capital. He also contributes to McKinsey's Strategy & Corporate Finance Practice, and is a co-author of "The agentic transformation office: Redefining the economics of change" (2026), "Unlocking full potential: Five practices reshaping PE value creation" (2026) and "From potential to performance: Using gen AI to conduct outside-in diligence" (2025)
The transformation office has a dirty secret: the function charged with driving change is often the last to modernize itself, running on manual decks and fragmented data. In this session, McKinsey shows how agentic AI breaks that structural ceiling and redefines the economics of change.
• Why the traditional transformation office hits a structural ceiling — and why adding people won't fix it
• The three pillars that a leaner, agentic transformation office runs on
• How the role of the CTO and the transformation team changes when agents take on the routine work
• What it takes to lead the shift safely: governance, guardrails and trust
