Enterprise architects, whether working in-house or as consultants, need to be able to influence technology purchasing decisions during digital transformation projects. This view was shared by Wayne Filin-Matthews, chief enterprise architect and EA discipline lead for the Global Digital Transformation Office at Dell Technologies.

Speaking at PEX Live: Enterprise Architecture 2022, Filin-Matthews said that enterprise architects needed to have “the ability to influence key decision-makers and key stakeholders” when determining the best technologies to use for optimum customer and business outcomes. He said that it was important for enterprise architects to build trust with everyone involved in digital transformation which comes from recommending the best solutions to meet the organization’s needs.

Filin-Matthews described the pivot toward cloud-based solutions in digital transformation – particularly since the Covid-19 pandemic – as “not a destination, but a set of core principles” that form the building blocks for developing effective solutions.
