How to adopt a “work smarter” approach to workflow improvement

Maersk has been able to streamline its credit request process through technology and stakeholder collaboration

Maersk’s workflow automation journey has been informed by the principle of working smarter rather than simply working harder, according to Vineet Mehra, the company’s product head – global process owner. During PEX Live: Workflow Automation 2022, Mehra shared a case study on process improvement and automation for the customer credit application process.

He explained that Toyota was a pioneer in improving workflows when it introduced Total Quality Management, but many companies still face challenges and errors occur when processes fail and require modernization. When Maersk embarked on transforming its credit application process, Mehra said the problems across all departments were addressed, along with the impact on the customer journey.

The company was able to automate around 8,000 credit requests per month, which reduced approval times and improved data visibility. An application programming interface (API) was used to improve user experience and SAP workflow capabilities were used to streamline processes.
