SAP unveiled the next stage of its vision for European digital sovereignty with the launch of EU AI Cloud.
EU AI Cloud is designed to ensure full data sovereignty and EU-based data residency, enabling every organization to meet its specific regulatory, security, and operational requirements.
SAP aims to bring various previous milestones together under one strategic vision: a sovereign artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud platform purpose-built for Europe. The result is a comprehensive, full-stack sovereign cloud offering that lets customers choose the sovereignty and deployment model that fits their needs, according to the announcement.
SAP unveils EU AI Cloud
EU AI Cloud is fueled by a growing ecosystem of top European and global partners. By bringing advanced AI models and applications from Cohere, Mistral AI, OpenAI, and others directly into SAP BTP, it provides a streamlined path to build, deploy, and scale AI solutions, SAP said.
Customers can consume these capabilities as SaaS, PaaS, or IaaS, and deploy them across SAP infrastructure or trusted European partners. This collaborative model ensures that European enterprises and public-sector organizations can adopt cutting-edge AI securely, in full compliance with EU standards, and with the sovereignty and flexibility they need.

EU AI Cloud offers flexible deployment
EU AI Cloud offers flexible deployment through SAP Sovereign Cloud, giving customers full control across infrastructure, platform, and software tailored to their regulatory and operational needs.
AI models run on SAP’s software abstraction layer in European data centers, ensuring compliance and independence from US hyperscalers.
Features include:
- SAP Sovereign Cloud on SAP cloud infrastructure (EU): An EU-based IaaS built on open-source technologies and operated entirely within SAP’s European data centers, ensuring all data stays in the EU and meets European data-protection requirements.
- SAP Sovereign Cloud on-site: An SAP-operated infrastructure deployed in a customer-owned or chosen data center, delivering maximum data, operational, technical, and legal sovereignty while preserving full SAP cloud architecture and innovation.
- Selected hyperscalers per market: For customers that choose to run SAP commercial SaaS on global cloud providers, with sovereignty features as required.
- Delos Cloud: A secure and sovereign cloud solution in Germany, designed to support the public sector’s transformation and meet country-specific sovereignty requirements.
