C3 AI unveils agentic process automation to enable autonomous workflows

Michael Hill | 09/11/2025

C3 AI, an artificial intelligence (AI) application software company, unveiled C3 AI Agentic Process Automation, a new product designed to enable organizations to encapsulate both business and operational work through autonomous AI agents.

C3 AI Agentic Process Automation covers business processes such as order-to-cash, customer service, invoice processing, debt collection, supplier onboarding, procurement and employee onboarding, according to the announcement.

It also extends to industrial operations such as equipment troubleshooting, manufacturing operations, production planning, inventory management and aircraft maintenance, the firm stated.

From RPA to agentic process automation

Tasks traditionally handled by robotic process automation (RPA) can now be reimagined with C3 AI Agentic Process Automation, according to a press release. By combining the reasoning power of advanced AI models with structured workflows and built-in controls, the solution aims to enable smarter, more flexible automation, it added.

Furthermore, users can quickly design and deploy scalable AI-powered processes via a no-code, interactive interface driven by natural language.

“Traditional RPA systems follow rigid instructions, leading to complex workflows and sub-optimal outcomes with the need for substantial human intervention for escalations,” said Nikhil Krishnan, chief technology officer, data science at C3 AI. “C3 AI Agentic Process Automation is different. It represents a step change in enterprise automation by combining the best of deterministic workflow steps with the dynamic reasoning capabilities of AI agents. This shift transforms automation from rigid scripts into intelligent systems that continuously deliver business value.”

Each AI agent is given an objective together with constraints, instructions and memory using known data, tools and business knowledge to achieve that objective, C3 AI stated. Workflows can run on demand, be triggered by events or operate on a schedule. Organizations can start with pre-built templates or design and share their own custom workflows.

“By combining the best of business rules with the advanced reasoning capabilities of AI agents, our customers can streamline operations, reduce costs and improve their customer service and satisfaction levels – all while ensuring transparency and security,” added Stephen Ehikian, CEO of C3 AI.

Business leaders are pivoting to agentic automation

Nearly two-thirds (60 percent) of business leaders are pivoting to agentic automation to drive enterprise value. That’s according to a recent research report developed by Automation Anywhere in collaboration with Forrester Consulting.

The findings highlight the increasing momentum of AI agents across industries, as well as the implementation challenges organizations must address to realize their full potential.

The study, based on a survey of global decision-makers overseeing enterprise-wide AI strategies, found that 60 percent of respondents believe intelligent automation platforms are the most valuable foundation for building and deploying AI agents.

Meanwhile, the intelligent process automation market is expected to be worth around US$61.23 billion by 2034 as organizations channel resources into AI-powered automation for financial processing, supply chain optimization and customer service enhancement, according to a new report from Market.us.
