Project Award Winner 2013: Reduction in fuel consumption at petrochemical processing plant

2013 Winner for Best Project Over 90 Days

Six Sigma began in 2009 at petrochemical plant UNIB 2 RS - a unit of Braskem, a Brazilian headquarted petrochemical company - with a focus on industrial processes, material losses and productivity. In 2011, the company embarked on a series of cost reduction goals and initiatives, including a Six Sigma project with two aims: 1) reduce the amount of process energy consumed per ton of product produced and 2) reduce the amount of fuel consumed for power generation.

In this downloadable presentation, Braskem UNIB 2 RS describes the pilot project that the Six Sigma team undertook in order to identify the critical Xs that would help deliver significant improvements in fuel consumption as well as achieve cost savings to the business. It describes the process the team took in order to analyze and find root causes through to the statistical tools applied in order to identify the variables that made a significant impact on the process.
