In the aftermath of the global financial crisis and the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, both of which could be put down to process failures, the role of process excellence is coming into its own to drive growth, manage risk and retain margins. In this podcast, Helen Winsor of IQPC speaks with John Douglas, VP of PMP at Hess Corporation, who talks about how Hess is working to retain and maintain the corporate commitment to performance management, move beyond typical production excellence methodologies, and sustain Lean and model system wide-risk management, scenario planning processes and asset integrity using continuous improvement concepts.
In addition, Douglas outlines the pros and cons of rolling out end-to-end business processes one project at a time versus enabling enterprise-wide programs, and sets out the vital steps to success. He gives examples of where Hess has created networks of excellence, including challenges faced, solutions, and the common problems when approaching process excellence in complex environments, such as geographic and business silos or third-party services.
