According to IBM, the world produces 2.5 quintillion bytes of data per day or more than 357,000,000 bytes per person on earth per day (based on an approximate world population of 7 billion). In our estimation that works out to about 832 normal size DVDs full of data being produced per person on earth per day. Advances in computer technology as well as the decreasing cost of these technologies – including storage, processing capacity, etc. - mean that the ability to store and actually derive insight from large data sets like this has become finally become possible.

Infographic that depicts the explosion of data and looks at the operational impacts of it on businesses.
