Rod Hill

Rod Hill is the Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Manager for JEA.  Beginning work in manufacturing in 1970 as a Machine Operator, his career encompasses most disciplines of competitive enterprises.  He received a Bachelor of General Studies degree from Furman University and continues to study competitive management for businesses. 

Prior to joining JEA in 2000, Rod worked for five (5) Manufacturing Companies and two (2) Education and Counseling firm.  His job assignments have included Machine Operator, Set Up Man, Industrial Engineer, Chief Industrial Engineer, Controller, Production and Inventory Control Manager, Purchasing Manager, Materials Manager, Director of Strategic Planning, Marketing Support Consultant, Director of Operations, Senior Associate and CEO.  In addition, he spent five (5) years teaching part time at the college level and twelve (12) years teaching and consulting in the U.S. and Europe for various clients. His experience-rich background supports all strategic development and organizational design. This background has also prepared him to provide educational opportunities that are practical, dynamic and applicable for immediate results. 

During his career, Rod has served on the board of both the Industrial Crescent and the Gold Coast Chapters of APICS. He was an active member of the Purchasing Manager's Association of the Carolinas and Virginia.  Rod was involved with Region XI of APICS and is a past board member of the Atlantic Coast Symposium.  Rod is also a member of Mensa.  He has always supported activities in the arts and was one of the founders of Centre Stage, A Community Theatre.

He was made a Lifetime Member of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce in recognition for donating thousands of hours of volunteer effort toward improving the quality of life on the First Coast.  He has been recognized by the First Coast Manufacturers Association for his volunteer role in helping improve the education of 6th, 7thand 8thgraders in an inner-city school.  The approach included programs to reduce violence and teenage pregnancies, put the children in uniforms and focus on the learning process.  The school was successful in raising performance and leaving the list of failing schools.

Rod has facilitated hundreds of small groups involving thousands of participants working on issues as diverse as safety in the workplace to reducing juvenile crime to vision/mission development to supplier/customer relationships to union/management negotiations. He has a practical hands-on approach to solving problems faced by businesses.  Somewhat of a raconteur, his unique blend of classroom and business experience allows the use of easily understood anecdotal explanations to achieve clarity of understanding quickly and easily.

Past presentations include the American Production and Inventory Control Society International Conference, Atlantic Coast Symposium, Automotive Equipment and Suppliers Institute (National Conference Keynote), Automotive Suppliers Exposition, International Quality and Productivity Conference, Mortgage Bankers Association of America (National Conference Keynote),National Association of Purchasing Managers, Process Excellence Network, Society of Plastics Engineers, Wisconsin CPA Association as well as a multitude of dinner meeting presentations for a wide variety of professional associations.
