Sydney, Australia– Monday 4 July 2011: Western Power and ING Direct took top honours at IQPC Sydney’s Process Excellence Awards, announced at a ceremony on June 28th.

Winners were selected on their achievements in a range of judging criteria covering business results, direction setting and portfolio management, implementation, project execution, innovation and creating an environment for change.

Western Power, which operates the electricity grid in South Western Australia, won in the category Best Process Improvement Project.

Ian Jamison, Senior Continuous Improvement Business Partner at Western Power, said that the company’s submission demonstrated how staff could use Lean Six Sigma methodologies to overcome challenges that they had struggled to address in the past.

"The project showed that when operational and field staff work together using Lean Six Sigma methodologies, they can successfully address and deliver improvements, even in an area where they may have struggled previously," Mr. Jamison said.

The winners and runners up for 2011 Australia Process Excellence Awards are:

Best Process Improvement Project

  • Winner: Western Power
  • Honorary Mention: Optus

Best Improvement Manager

  • Winner: ING Direct

The Awards were hosted as part of IQPC’s Process Excellence Summit & Awards in Sydney Australia which saw over 100 Process Improvement leaders from across the Australian and New Zealand community share deployment ideas in Lean Six Sigma and BPM strategies for two days.

Craig Steward, Deputy Managing Director, IQPC Sydney believes the Process Excellence Awards reflects today’s diversity in the application of Business Process Excellence.

"The IQPC Awards Program is judged by a hand selected panel of experts and is designed to benchmark and recognise achievements across industries active in Business Process Excellence. This year saw the widest selection of global companies as well as winners from the public and private sector," Mr. Steward said.
