What do process excellence, science and 13 Nobel laureates have in common? Up until recently – not much at all. But Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, a US-based government research facility, has set out to change all that. The Laboratory, which operates within the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science, set out to deploy process excellence techniques within their facilities division and have achieved remarkable results in a short space of time.

For their work, Lawrence Berkeley was recently awarded PEX Network’s award for Best Start Up Business Excellence Program (Under 2 Years) at the annual flagship event PEX Week, which takes place every January in Orlando. The award celebrates the achievements of new Business Process Excellence programs of up to 2 years in deployment – covering Lean, Six Sigma & Business Process Management (BPM).
