Best Process Improvement Program 2013 Award Winner

DTE Energy is US-based energy company providing electicity and gas to residential properties and businesses, with the largest operating subsidiaries operating in the state of Michigan.

The company's process excellence program has been operating since 1998 during which time it has evolved from a focus on tools, demonstration projects and developing the necessary continuous improvement skills (in the form of Lean Six Sigma) to a much greater alignment of continuous improvement with company targets and a focusing on coaching to develop capability and capacity.

In this downloadable presentation, DTE describes its award winning continuous improvement program in depth and how it has evolved. The company has made having a distinctive continuous improvement capabtility one of six corporate priorities and has created its own blend of continuous improvement approaches. These include a way of engaging frontline leaders and employees in applying Continuous Improvement daily that the company calls "PRT" (Practice, Reptition and Training), Hoshin planning, metrics and tracking (including enterprise scorecards, business unit department scorecards and front-line "Huddle Boards" that contain process metrics).
