Process Excellence as a force for good in the community
Florida's most populous city - Jacksonville - has a number of claims to fame: the King of Rock N Roll Elvis Presley played his first indoor concert there in the 1950s, the city plays host to the world's longest river sailboat race each May (the Rudder Club Mug Race - a 38-mile run up the St. Johns River from Palatka to Jacksonville), and it boasts the most parkland of any city in the US.
But in the opinion of PEX Network, it's the community-minded approach to process excellence that truly sets this city apart. The city has been home since 2001 to the Jacksonville Six Sigma Symposium (JSSS) a not for profit group of professionals who have improved quality and operational efficiencies within their organizations. More recently, the JSSS set up the Community Excellence Alliance, a partnership between volunteer process improvement professionals and college students to achieve community-focused process improvement objectives.
For the past two years the Community Excellence Alliance has been working with local charites and other non-governmental organizations to help improve performance find new and better ways to pursue and execute their work through the application of process excellence approaches and methodologies.
This downloadable PDF document details what the Community Excellence Alliance is, how it works, and describes some of the projects undertaken to help local community groups. In the two years the group has been operating it has helped charities reduce the need for fund-raising by over $1 million per year while delivering same or better services, touched the lives and careers of over 100 students and 30 mentors and improved the lives of thousands who are being left behind.
