CTQ stands for Critical to Quality. Requirements which are identified as CTQ are actually handful of requirements which are considered critical to the executive team in determining the success of the project/product/process.

Critical To Quality (CTQ) is continuous measuring and monitoring tool agreed between the internal process to achieve greater customer satisfaction. Different data collection tools are available for determining the VOC. Tool selection must consider the study’s purpose and key decision factors, as well as match the desired evaluation level and data type. Even with a sound decision on these points, there can still be bias that will invalidate or skew the measurements. To translate the customer feedback into project goals and objectives, for which a “critical to” (CT), matrix is often created. The translation is accomplished by sorting the customer’s needs according to the following characteristics: • Critical-to-quality (CTQ) • Critical-to-delivery (CTD) • Critical-to-cost (CTC) There are essentially two steps to identifying CTQs. Step 1: Understand customer and technical requirements. • Who are the customers? (Use VOC) • What is important to them? (Use VOC to translate into CCRs) • What are the technical requirements? (Use CCRs to determine functional/technical requirements) Step 2: Transfer technical requirements to CTQs. • What are the parts and characteristics? • What is critical? By identifying the vital few qualities that outweigh the trivial many, a CT matrix can show where to obtain the greatest impact.

CTQ is the quality, for which customer pays. It is those primary requirement or needs from customer which can't be negotiated. In easy words, it is called CTQ.

CTQ stands for Critical to Quality, and is the term for a measurable quantifiable customer requirement. These are the characteristics of a product or service that are “Critical to Quality” for the customer.

CTQ = Critical to Quality. In six sigma y = f(x1,x2, ...) CTQ is your y variable - that "thing" you're trying to improve. You'll also encounter CTS (critical to satisfaction) CTC (critical to cost), CTD (critical to delivery), CTP (critical to process) any one of those could be your project y variable.

CTQ means "critical to quality". These are the key drivers of quality defined by the market and not internally defined. Quality has no meaning outside of the market. CTQs should be prioritized in terms of their importance. This reduces the probability that efforts to improve quality are not focused on relatively unimportant elements of quality. Understanding the CTQs and their importance provides greater effectiveness and efficiency in improvement.
